Lettuce, tomato and a whole heap of Mayo…

Lettuce, tomato and a whole heap of Mayo…
Mmmmmm  sandwich! Most of the sandwiches that I enjoy would be topped just like that. Not a lot of lettuce, because if I wanted a salad in a bun, I would make a salad and put it in a bun. But just the right amount of lettuce with fresh ripe firm tomatoes and yum!!! Then you add mayo. Mayo mayo mayo…. Mmmm mayo.
Confession… my obsession with mayo does not stem from sandwiches, nor does it have anything to do with mayonnaise. Click here for more info.
Mmmmmmayo comes from the fact that in two weeks, I will be heading off to Rochester, MN to be checked out by the world renowned Mayo Clinic.
If you know me you can probably skip to the next paragraph, because you likely have heard this more than once or twice. Why am I going to an international health clinic, whatsamattawitchu??? As I mentioned before, the rebirth of mr blog is because I picked up a lovely disease/disorder/syndrome whatever you want to call it. I have something called Rhabdomyolysis (rhab what?? Click here for info)… it hurts… Ontario can’t seem to fix me… doctor referred me, away I go. Hmmm that is a very short version of one long story. For 8 years I have been battling this disease with no success. If you did a lil reading from the link above, you can see what has been going on with my body. I have the version that is triggered by viruses. My CK levels during my last episode went as high as 88,OOO. In layman’s terms a whole heap o’ hurtin. Normal CK levels from men should be under 250, 400 for black and east Indian males. Weightlifters after an intense workout can go up to 10,000, marathon runners 15,000, car crash victims, 20-30,000. I have often been asked by doctors, how on earth I walk and manage… When I have an answer I will get back to you. Honestly, it just is a matter of mind over matter… I have two very active boys, so my wife and I just git ‘er done. One day I will attempt to put the 8 year story down, what a freakin story that one is.
Mayo… ohhhhh sweet mayo. So like I said, Ontario can’t figure it out, so off to Minnesota I go. But it ain’t cheap, so my wife asked a few friends to help us out to get me there and oh boy…. I truly understand and grasp the “snowball” effect now. I volunteer at CHUO fm as an on air host/producer and do my best to help out my community when and where I can. What I didn’t grasp was just how connected I was to the community, and in turn how connected they were to me. What started out as an e mail, turned quickly into a full blown fund raising campaign. I will definitely talk more about this on another day, but you know who you are… THANK YOU.
I am humbled by it. I am amazed by it. I’ve been made speechless by it. I am thankful for it. I feel enveloped in love by it. I am learning from it. I will do right by it.
The Mayo Clinic currently holds hope for me and my family. It holds the answer to something that has drastically effected and affected my family for close to a decade now. Mayo is hopefully the key to getting me back to me; I haven’t been me for a very long time. I miss me.
So in two weeks we build a beautiful sandwich, filled with delicious ingredients, topped with lettuce, tomato and hopefully a scoop of Mayo.  Mmmmmmayo. The more Mayo, the better.
